Women’s Therapy on the Upper West Side – Specializations
Our therapists are influenced by the perspective of Integral Psychology. We realize that human life consists of a number of interrelated facets (biological, emotional, cognitive, relational, cultural and spiritual), each of which plays a key role in a woman’s well being. We take all those into consideration so that we can best understand your unique circumstances and develop a treatment plan that is ideal for you.
We also embrace the Mind-Body connection, utilizing a holistic approach and collaborating with other health care practitioners as needed.
Our specializations include:
- Self Exploration – establishing your individual identity
- Adolescence – identity development in a culture of pressure and influence
- 20-Somethings – self-discovery and being on your own
- Fertility, Pregnancy, and Parenthood – emotional ups and downs, stress on both you and your partner
- Eating Disorders – Anorexia, Bulimia, Compulsive Overeating, and other patterns of dysfunctional eating
Our treatment plans are always individually tailored to your specific needs. Two therapies we may utilize are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is a short-term therapy that targets a very specific issue. During the course of treatment, the patient learns how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that negatively influence their behavior.
CBT is goal-oriented and results-focused and can effectively treat the following conditions:
- Panic attacks
- Specific phobias
- Poor impulse control
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Body Dysmorphia
- Trichotillomania
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Research shows DBT is highly effective in reducing multiple psychological symptoms including cutting, bingeing, purging, substance abuse, and angry outbursts. In addition, DBT directly addresses the psychosocial aspects of treatment — how a person interacts with others in different environments and relationships.
